Give Your Used Bikes, Tools, School Supplies and Sports Equipment a New Home in a Developing Country

Bicycles in a developing country can mean the difference between work and unemployment. Bikes are used to deliver cargo as well as for transportation. A bike worth $20 in the U.S. is worth the equivalent of $400 to $500 in Nicaragua for example due to salaries of $50/month. Bikes also provide work for mechanics and messengers.

Since 2001, Working Bikes Cooperative has shipped 500 bikes to Africa, Central America and the Caribbean. Our partner organizations are: Asante Akim Multipurpose Community Telecentre in Ghana (see http://www.patriensa.com), Masaya Without Frontiers in Nicaragua (see http://peaceworks.igc.org) and Pastors for Peace which delivers humanitarian supplies to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (see http://www.ifconews.org). Tools, school supplies and sports equipment fill the space between bikes in a container.

Working Bikes Cooperative is an all-volunteer organization with no salaries. Tools and bikes do not have to be in working order. To volunteer or make a donation contact Working Bikes: at 708-466-6054, email workingbikes@yahoo.com, or visit on the web: http://www.workingbikes.org. Donations of money, tools and equipment are tax-deductible through the Nicaragua Medical Alliance an Illinois non-profit organization.

Drop off donations at 1406 West Cullerton, Chicago any Saturday between 10 and 3 or 927 South Western any Saturday between 1 and 5. Or call 708-466-6054 to arrange a pick-up. We have drop-off locations in Oak Park, Orland Park and Uptown in Chicago.
